ROBERT GRAND, OD, PA

 FELLOW, ORTHOKERATOLOGY ACADEMY OF AMERICA

 

Dr. Robert Grand had his undergraduate training at Emory University and graduated BS Biology from the University of Miami. He achieved his Doctor of Optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1974.
He is a past president of the Dade County Optometric Association, and is an active member who participates and donates his time in providing quality, complementary eye exams for Vision USA and locally thru the Heiken Fund ( Miami Lighthouse for the Blind).
He successfully passed the examination in contact lens practice administered by the National Eye research foundation (NERF) in Nov. 1982 and was granted membership in the International Orthokeratology Society in August, 1986.

For more than 30 years Dr Grand has successfully assisted airline pilots, policemen and athletes thru Orthok in the pursuit of their visually demanding careers and has patients from as far as Alaska, Hongkong, England, Wyoming, California and Germany who had sought his expertise in corneal molding. He is passionate in the prevention and slowing the progression of myopia ( nearsightedness ) among children and teenagers so they will not have "coke bottle/ thick eyeglasses that he experienced in his youth”. He believes in Preventive Medicine hence he devotes an hour for each eye exam to also educate patients and families.

In August, 2002 he was a participant in the first Global Orthokeratology symposium in Toronto, Canada and is currently an active member of the Orthokeratology Academy of America (www.okglobal.org). He recently attended an international gathering of more than 200 orthokeratologists from China, Taiwan, Vietnam, South Africa, Italy, India, Australia, and the United states in October, 2010.

He succesfully passed oral and written examinations and became a Fellow of the  Orthokeratology Academy of America( www.okglobal.org)  in April, 2011 during it's international conference in Orlando, Florida attended by distinguished researchers and orthokeratologists .

Dr. Grand balances his time with his hobbies of reading, travelling, attending foreign cinema, social networking on facebook, learning a new language and biking  ( if you see him on the road, please  say Hello ! ).


By the way, he also has an organic vegetable/herb garden in his backyard!

Jane

 
Jane joined Dr. Grand’s office  two years ago, as a licensed optician. Jane is very passionate with  her patients and makes sure they are very comfortable with their glasses. Jane is an Orthoketeralogy patient and loves to tell others about how well it has worked for her! She has also obtained a BS in Biology. Jane is very excited about completing a BS in IT Systems Security by 2013. She enjoys working with computers, making time for meditation, and traveling to new places. Jane’s hobbies include watching tennis, cricket, and soccer matches. Her favorite subjects of study are sociology and religion. Jane’s favorite culture is Indian; favorite food is Mediterranean food, and she absolutely loves Bollywood movies!
  
 
Belle   
 
Belle joined Dr. Grand’s office more than 10 years ago, as an Ortho-k / Corneal Molding Coordinator. Belle received her Master of Science in Nursing in 1997 and  Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner degree (ARNP, FIU 1988) . During her career, she has held the position of Organ Transplant Coordinator, Research Administrator, and ARNP for Solid Tumors at the University of Miami/JMH. She previously worked for Dr. Grand in the 1990’s while pursuing her graduate degree. She came back in 2008 to share her passion in educating patients about Corneal Molding / Ortho-k. She has worn corneal molds since 1990 and it has afforded her the freedom to do different activities such as swimming. “ It is empowering to be able to see clearly all day without surgery, glasses, or contact lenses”. Belle’s hobbies include: playing tennis, tandem biking, swimming, travelling,watching ballet, listening to classical music  and reading practical, biographies and art appreciation books.  Belle believes in observing a “rest day” once a week to spend time to contemplate, be off from tech gadgets such as cell phone/emails  and be with family.
 
Lynn 
 
Lynn joined Dr. Grand's office in January of 2012 as the Client Services Coordinator.  She is able to assist patients with any administrative issues they may have, including scheduling appointments and working with insurance companies.  She spent six years in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and was stationed in both South Carolina and Japan.  Lynn has her BS in Healthcare Administration and will be completing her MBA in October of 2012.  Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her family, but she also enjoys reading, seeing movies, and being outside at the park or beach.
